State flowers quiz
How well do you know the state flowers? For each state, pick its flower from four choices. State flowers are more varied than state birds, so this is the harder of the two quizzes.
How many questions?
Harder than birds
State flowers vary much more than state birds, with well over 40 different ones across the 50 states. Roses are the most common choice: Iowa and North Dakota chose the wild prairie rose, Georgia the Cherokee rose and Oklahoma a specific cultivated rose. Violets come next, chosen by Illinois, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Wisconsin.
Clues in the crops
Many state flowers celebrate a crop, which makes them easier to guess. Delaware’s peach blossom, Arkansas and Michigan’s apple blossom and Florida’s orange blossom all honor important orchards. Others are surprising: Maine’s floral emblem is the white pine cone and tassel, and Nevada’s is sagebrush. Ohio’s scarlet carnation honors President William McKinley, who wore one as a lucky charm.
Each state’s flower page shows a photograph, how to recognize the flower and the story behind its adoption.
