StatesFacts

Contact

Reports of facts that do not match their source, and news of symbols that states have added or repealed, are the most useful things a reader can send us.

Report an error

Email [email protected] with:

  • the page address and the fact you think is wrong;
  • what you believe is correct, and where it comes from, ideally the statute, session law or official state page;
  • whether the same fact appears on other pages, such as the state's symbols page or a national list.

Every fact on StatesFacts names its source, so the quickest check is to compare it with the source listed at the bottom of the page. We check every report against the law or the original record, correct the page and update its verification date.

New and repealed symbols

State legislatures add symbols every session, and sometimes replace or repeal them. If your state has passed a new designation, the bill or session law number helps us add it quickly.

What we cannot help with

We cannot give permission to use a state's seal or flag; those questions belong to the state, usually the secretary of state. We also cannot help with homework answers beyond what is on the pages, though the sources are a good place to start.
